MEDICAL CODING 

                    Medical coding is the process of extracting data from a doctor's notes on a patient's medical history, including medical procedures, diagnoses, necessary medical equipment, and medical services. This data is converted into standard medical alphanumeric codes by a medical coder.

Three categories of medical alphanumeric codes are well-known worldwide:

• The World Health Organisation (WHO) developed the International Classification of Diseases (ICD), a system that is widely used. The classification system is primarily used for data collecting and health records, among other things. These codes can categorise signs, conditions, illnesses, and fatalities.

• CPT codes are used in the US to identify certain medical, surgical, and diagnostic operations and services. This system, which has three categories—procedures and modern medical practises, clinical labs, and developing technologies—was created by the American Medical Association (AMA).

• The Centres for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) created the Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) to facilitate in the processing of insurance claims for Medicare or other providers. They are used by coders to record medical processes, goods, services, and merchandise.
