MEDICAL CODING 

              Medical coding is the process of extracting data from a doctor's notes on a patient's medical history, including medical procedures, diagnoses, necessary medical equipment, and medical services. This data is converted into standard medical alphanumeric codes by a medical coder.

Three categories of widely used medical alphanumeric codes exist

• International Classification of Diseases (ICD): This widely used classification system was developed by the World Health Organization (WHO). The classification system is primarily used for data collecting and health records, among other things. These codes can categorize signs, conditions, illnesses, and fatalities.

• Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) In the US, CPT codes describe various types of medical, surgical, and diagnostic procedures and services. This system, which has three categories—procedures and modern medical practices, clinical labs, and developing technologies—was created by the American Medical Association (AMA).

• Healthcare Common Procedure Coding (HCPCS): The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) created this coding system to aid in the processing of insurance claims for Medicare or other providers.
